COVID-19 mandated self-directed distance learning: Experiences of Saudi female postgraduate students

Since the emergence of 2020 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Saudi Arabia (SA) has preserved safety its citizens by mandating crisis distance education (CDE). Appreciating that most learners struggle with such an abrupt shift in delivery mode, especially one depends on self-directed learning (SDL), this exploratory, qualitative study solicited data May from a convenience sample 20 female postgraduate students enrolled at public university Eastern Province SA. Findings affirmed SDL via CDE contributed to their educational growth, and they will continue engage after health ends. In short, experience changed way approach future. Their high level allowed them assume responsibility for learning. They gained appreciation role reflection, self-monitoring, selfevaluation. both instilled promoted self-confidence, self-reliance, commitment, perseverance. Implications future research were tendered universities are encouraged intentionally build environments support learner-centered move country through beyond COVID 19 pandemic.
